Binghamton, NY (WBNG Binghamton) People pack in to support a local musician and nurse battling pancreatic disease.

A benefit for Katie Scott Hlavac was held at the Number 5 in Binghamton Sunday.

Her passion for music and life has made a fan of many.

The line was out the door to lend support for a friend in need.

The food was going fast and the music was cranking at the Number 5 restaurant on Sunday. It was all in honor of Katie-Scott Hlavac.

Hlavac is battling Pancreas Divism. She had surgery in early February to remove her entire pancreas.

Many local musicians took the stage to perform at the benefit. Hlavac sings in the band, Persuasion. She is also a regular performer at church, weddings and park events. Many say music has a huge impact in her life.

"She is a great kid, always singing. She's been singing all her life. She is wonderful and all this music is great," said her father Richard Scott.

While she is known for her singing, Katie is also a Nurse Practitioner at Diabetic Care Associates where she dedicates her time to the care of others.

"A very kind-hearted, very giving person and not a person that really likes to receive. I think this would just be so humbling to her," said friend and Event Coordinator Barbara Zelesnikar.

"I know my sister's really had an impact on a lot of people throughout the community. It's great to see them all coming," said brother David Scott.

Friends say Hlavac has blessed many with her musical talents and caring nature. Nearly 500 people came out Sunday to return the favor.
